It is not my goal for the site to become the subject upon which I report. Unfortunately, this week has been a rough one. Though I am not exactly certain when it happened, our servers went off line sometime between Tuesday and Wednesday. Not only did they go offline, the company from whom we purchase our webspace did not notify us. Once I realized we had been offline for more than 12 hours, I contacted the company to find out why. At first they did not have any answers. In fact, for almost 36 hours they had not answers for us. Eventually they let me know that the servers were offline for some techno-jargon reason. OK, at least they now admitted that we were offline. Next question, when will service be restored? No definite answers again. Finally, I requested that they move our site to a server that was not offline. Once that happened, it took another 24-hours before the site was accessible for me to begin uploading all of the data, pages, and pictures. If you run across any of the pages with dead links, or pictures that do not show up, please let me know. I have quickly gone through the site and made corrections where necessary. It is quite likely that I missed a few things. Fixing them is not a problem, I just have to know where they are. Thank you for your patience and for the many emails checking up on me.
With perhaps one of the tightest gag orders I have ever seen in a high-profile criminal case, the information about Benjamin Fawley's discussion with the police, and the subsequent investigation, have stopped. The last reports about when the Mathews County grand jury would hear the evidence in the case were for November 21, 2005. New reports now say that the investigators will wait until mid-January to present their evidence. The reason given is that the prosecution wants to wait until all of the forensic tests have been finished. Once the task force has compiled all of the evidence is when they will decide what charges to bring against the person responsible for Taylor's death. A charge of murder requires malice or intent, whereas an accidental death is charged as manslaughter.
Though there has been very little news about the investigation, there has been a lot of activity behind the scenes. Investigators continue to gather circumstantial evidence against Ben Fawley, the only named suspect in the case. Using Fawley's jailhouse statement, investigators have re-interviewed many of Fawley's friends, and other witnesses. Many of Taylor's friends have also been re-interviewed as the authorities look for inconsistencies in Fawley's statements. One can assume that the investigation is made more difficult because of the many conflicting stories told by Fawley during the first few days after Taylor's disappearance, followed by other versions given by him before and after his arrest. With so many details to investigate and either prove or disprove, the investigators do not want to take any chances, thus the delay in presenting the case to the Mathews County grand jury.
No updates for Monday.
