There are reports that Richmond Police Chief, Rodney Monroe, has requested a gag order to prevent the release of any more information regarding Fawley's 2-hour long conversation with investigators. Apparently, information that has not been approved for release is being leaked, and he feels it best to spend time investigating the case, rather than trying to find the source of the leak.
WRIC TV8 News is reporting that 38-year old Ben Fawley has admitted to being with Taylor Behl when she died. Fawley has reportedly told police that he buried the body, because he was scared after the 17-year old died during a sexual encounter that became rough. Fawley tells a story reminiscent of one told by Robert Chambers after the death of of Jennifer Levin in the mid 1980's.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch has a story on their website, with a little more detail. The admissions came during the two-hour long discussion that Fawley had with the police on the eve before Taylor's 18th birthday, and the day that her parents, family, and friends visited sharing memories of her.
Sources close to the investigation told the Times-Dispatch that Fawley told a story of having an intimate encounter with Taylor in her car the night she dissapeared. He said that the encounter became rough, ultimately leading to her death. Fawley said that during the encounter, he restricted her breathing and apparently went too far causing her death. Fawley continues to insist that the death was accidental. As Fawley tells the story, in the early morning hours of September 6th, Taylor died near a beach in Mathews County, not far from where Taylor's remains were discovered. Fawley then says that he panicked, and then placed Taylor's body in a ravine on the side of a dirt road on property adjacent to land owned by the parents of ex-girlfriend, Erin Crabill.
At this time the multi-jurisdictional task force investigating Taylor's death are not ready to declare the death accidental. The law enforcement source told Jim Nolan with the Times-Dispatch that, "We have no doubt he killed her now." Another source said, "Some of it's true and some of it's [not]." The source says that they are "in the process now of trying to sort all of that out."
Since the Wednesday afternoon talk, the investigators have been running down leads, and trying to determine the validity of many key points in Fawley's statement. No matter how factual Fawley's tale is, or is not, several facts remain clear:
- Convicted felon, Ben Fawley was with Taylor when she died.
- Fawley admits to continued "intimate contact" with Taylor, who was not old enough to give consent.
- Fawley admits to improperly disposing of Taylor's remains.
- Fawley interfered with the police investigation by lying to them when first contacted.
- Fawley obviously hid evidence critical to the investigation.
All of the above are almost certainly a felony in Viriginia, just as they are in most jurisdictions. As such, Fawley was committing a felony at the time that he caused the death of Taylor. I am not an attorney, but I believe that would be considered a special circumstance, thus making the charges that will be levied against Fawley eligible for the death penalty; something that Janet Pelasara has called for several times since her daughter's body was recovered in Mathews County.
No matter how much of Fawley's yarn is true, Fawley inflicted a whole lot of emotional pain on Taylor's parents, her family, her friends, a nation, and around the world. This website has had visitors from 26 countries, and there are messages posted in Taylor's honor from many of those countries.
Chris Collins, Fawley's attorney, continues to neither confirm nor deny the contents of Fawley's statement. The only thing that Collins says is that Fawley spoke to the investigators against his advice. The investigators say that they are still investigating Taylor's death as a homicide.

Following the church services at which over 500 mourners gathered to celebrate Taylor's life, George O. Peterson told the press that the family has hired James "Bubba" Bates, a private investigator to assist with the ongoing investigation. At the same impromptu press conference, Janet Pelasara vehemently expressed her desires about the "sub-human" that is responsible for Taylor's death. The toll the past 6 weeks have taken on Ms. Pelasara was obvious, she approached the press gathering physically supported on one side by Peterson, and on the other side by "Bubba" Bates. She addressed the press, her voice also demonstrating her grief, she said, "I hope that at my next press conference, I am announcing the arrest of the sickened, sub-human who murdered my beautiful daughter." Taking a shuddering breath, and now sobbing she continued, "May the courts see fit to give him the death penalty so that he may continue his downward spiral into the depths of Hell."
Several mourners shared their recollections with The Washington Post at the services held on Friday:"Taylor would make you feel like everything was going to be okay, just when everything was going wrong," a girlfriend said.
One relative recalled how Behl loved the crescent moon and exhorted listeners to think of her when they saw it. She spoke of the closeness between Behl and her mother, saying, "Taylor and her mom were like the Gilmore Girls."
Farida Wuensche met Behl at Jammin' Java, a Vienna coffee shop and music venue where she and Behl were regulars. Behl evinced a cosmopolitanism that belied her age, she said. Wuensche held a white rose she planned to put in a vase at Jammin' Java in honor of Behl, whom she described as an avid music lover and a serious student. "The last few times I saw her, she was excited about school," Wuensche said. "She said, 'Yeah, I gotta go, I gotta study now.' "
Ben Daniels, 21, a high school friend, described her as "smart" and "upbeat," with "a smile that would light up the world." Daniels said Behl was like "a little sister" to him who, along with her mother, had taken him in when she was a freshman at James Madison High School in Vienna and he was a high school senior going through a difficult time. "I didn't know where to go," he said. "She talked to her mother and I ended up moving in with them for a few months." During that time, he said, "I just remember it was always nice to come home."
Taylor's step-father read a poem, "Funeral Blues" by W.H. Auden, to the weeping gathering, many of whom were teenagers and college students:

God bless Taylor Marie Behl. May she rest in peace. May her loved ones sense her presence as she watches over them from above. May her spirit give her loved ones strength as they face the trying days ahead, and may her spirit provide them support when they falter under the weight of their grief. Most of all, may her memory provide solace, light, and purpose when the days seem dreary, dark, and pointless.
